Hiring Bubba in Bandera
Hiring Bubba in Bandera: "Bandera County is hiring new jailers to staff an expanded detention center, but according to Judith Pannebaker at the Bandera County Courier:
The Sheriff is an elected official; whaddya think? Is this okay or should the hiring process be more democratic?
"
In Bandera County at least, it appears the best hedge against a still-failing economy is to have a relative or friend already hard at work for the county. Using information obtained by the Texas Open Records Act, the Courier has learned that seven of the newly hired jailers are related to or friends of current employees of the sheriff’s office. ...Ouch! Read the rest. Pretty darn good coverage for a rural county paper.
The fact that the majority of the hires are related to or indicated a friendship with BCSO employees – in addition that most lack previous jail experience – has rubbed some citizens the wrong way.
The Sheriff is an elected official; whaddya think? Is this okay or should the hiring process be more democratic?

Wii for PE credit?: "
You may or may not be a Wii fan. And if you’re not familiar with the Nintendo Wii, it’s the game in which you use your remote like a virtual tennis racket or bowling ball. Students at the University of Houston can now get college credit for playing video games, according to the Associated Press. They can earn an hour of credit for playing Wii sports games. University officials say it’s the same credit they would get for playing basketball, soccer or weight lifting. They say the Wii class is an attempt to attract students who would otherwise not exercise at all.
So would you take this class?
